Belated Caturday and Harry Potter

Panini and her foster babies

I've been a bad blogger and not only missed the past few weeks of Caturday, haven't been blogging nearly as much as I want to. There are two main reasons for this:

1) The kitties themselves! They've been a handful. We've fostered lots of cats before, but never five orphans. They needed constant attention bottle-feeding, cleaning and caring for them, and although now they can eat by themselves, they still want attention all the time! And one little guy was sick for a while a needed a few vet trips and daily medicine. Panini has adopted the kittens as her own and is the sweetest little foster mommy, and she helps us grooming and playing with them! They're six weeks old now, so we'll have them for another 2 weeks.

The Weasley brothers!

2) Harry Potter! Haha.. I have never been interested in Harry Potter, ever. When the books first came out, I guess I thought I was too cool for it (I had too many other nerdy things to obsess about) and just never got into the series. Well, my best friends convinced me to watch the movies in succession so we could see the last one in the theater. So we rented them all and had somewhat of a marathon, except it took 2 weeks instead of 1 weekend like we expected, watching parts of the movies every day. And now I'm a big Harry Potter nerd. I have a huge crush on Snape!

I saw the final movie in the theater on Friday, and have been spending whatever little time I have on the computer looking up goofy YouTube videos and hilarious HP memes.

My birthday is in a few days (August 3rd) so I'll hopefully be doing some fun things this week and the upcoming weekend, but I'll try to get back into the blogging habit. I just have to make myself stay off the Cheezburger Network...

How I got $50 worth of stuff for free at The Body Shop

Last year when they proposed I join the Love Your Body Club at The Body Shop, I was a little hesitant. It costs $10 a year, and I don't usually pay for rewards cards. But at the time, I was buying a large quantity of stuff, and the 10% discount nearly covered the membership costs. Since then, I've saved a TON of money on my Body Shop shopping sprees and gotten some exclusive deals and freebies too. This was one of those times.

One of the perks is their point system - for every purchase over $20, you get 1 point. For every purchase over $50, you get 2 points. When you make 4 points (which means spending $80~100), you get $15 worth of store credit. When you make 8 points, you get $25 worth of store credit and free membership renewal. I made it to 8 points about 8 months into my membership, and had my $25 sitting there, ready to be spent.

Except I didn't really need anything, so I was holding on to it until the right moment. Well, that right moment came. I received a $5 (off $25) coupon in the mail, so now I had $30 in store credit. Not only that, but this weekend they had a secret LYB members only sale that got you 25% off any purchase of $20 or more - that's in addition to your 10% regular discount! So now I had to go!

I shopped online before I went, because I always seem to get there and blank on what I need. I've tried a couple Tea Tree products and liked them, so I decided I'd get the Tea Tree travel kit ($25) to sample some of the other products, the Tea Tree face mask ($15) and maybe pick up a body butter if I needed something extra.

When I got there, the salesgirl mentioned that for the price of the travel kit, I could get the three full-sized products for the same price! There was a promotion going on (that wasn't advertised very prominently) which discounted the full-sized items!

The breakdown:

Face wash $11
Toner $11
Face lotion $13
Scrub $13
Mask $15
Tea tree oil $9

Original total: $72

Promotion for set of 3 skincare: minus $10
8 point gift: minus $25
$5 off coupon: minus $5
25% off $20 sale: minus $8
10% off LYB discount: minus $2.40

Grand total: $21.60

I could have spent a lot less, but faced with all these cool tea tree items and a discount, I ended up getting more than I planned. But when it came time to check out, I actually stunned the salesgirl into speechlessness. That's right - my couponing skills are so amazing, I even surprise the employees, haha! She said she's never seen anything like that before, although I personally don't think it was that amazing!

Now I have everything I could possibly want from The Body Shop, I think it's time to lay off the shopping for a bit!

LA Splash Crackle'd nail polish

My local Harmon just got a huge stock of new products in, rearranging the entire front wall of the store to display all this fun stuff! One of the many things they've started stocking is crackle nail polish in every brand that makes them, including OPI's Shatter, Sally Hansen's Crackle, and this new LA Splash Cosmetics (LASplash?) stuff.

I've been dying to try crackled nail polish for a while, and the LA Splash polish was only $4.79, so I decided to give it a try. They had this amazing looking silver glitter crackle called "Ice'd", which I chose over a black since I thought it would look less goth. I put it on over my existing chipping purple manicure (which I was going to take off tomorrow anyway) and came up with... what??

The thin silver glitter immediately turned thick, white, and opaque... it looks like moldy bread! I'm really befuddled because it changed so drastically and looks downright gross (which is exactly what my mom said when she saw my nails... "Ew, gross!"). I tried to apply a thin coat, but perhaps I put too much on? I will try it again tomorrow with fresh polish, but if it still looks like this, I'm going to take advantage of Harmon's fantastic return policy and try a black, or just forget about it entirely.

Even weirder is I haven't found a single mention of this polish on the internet no matter how many variations of "Crackle'd" I search for. No blogs, no reviews, no online stores selling it. It's not even on LA Splash's official site! What's with this mysterious product?

EcoTools "Choose To Live Beautifully" coupons

I got my coupons from the EcoTools "Choose To Live Beautifully" campaign! They arrived less than 2 weeks after I mailed my items in. If you haven't sent products in yet, there's still time! Check out for details.

The coupons are worth up to $7.99, which can get you individual brushes, lotions, shower accessories, or a set like their 6 piece eye brush set or 5 piece travel kit!

Color Club "Wicked Sweet" scented nail polish collection

I found this scented nail polish collection at TJMaxx for $7.99. I was hesitant at first because I wasn't familiar with the Color Club brand (they don't sell it around here) and I thought it was a cheap drugstore brand. Little did I know! This awesome neon collection is called "Wicked Sweet" and retails for around $20-30!

The colors include, from left to right (click above image for larger view):
Get Your Lem-on - bright yellow shimmer
The Lime Starts Here - bright green shimmer
I Always Get My Man-darin - tangerine-orange shimmer
Yum Gum - sweet pink creme
Raspberry Rush - magenta creme
Gimme A Grape Big Kiss - bright purple creme
Wicked Sweet - neon blue shimmer

They are scented when dry, they all have various sweet fruity flavors. The lemon, to me, smells like lemon scented toilet cleaner. They're all little silly, but the scent isn't as strong after the first day, so it's not bothersome.

I'm fully into the neon trend, and went crazy with the colors. Why wear just one?!

I used all colors but the grape. I've gotten so many complements on my brightly colored toes - they really make me smile! :)

My favorites are probably the green, blue, and yellow because they're the most unique. Without the rest of the collection surrounding them, the pink, raspberry, and grape cremes look like boring, generic nail colors because they're not particularly neon (seriously, my grandma always has her nails painted a similar raspberry color!). I think they would have looked better as shimmers too.

I think I will continue the fun multi-colored toes look this summer, but I can also see myself using most of the colors by themselves. It was definitely worth the 8 bucks!

It's Caturday!

I'm back from vacation and less than 24 hours later, there's a call for kitten fosters. A man was going to work and found a litter of kittens in his garage, with no mother to be seen! The kittens are about 3 weeks old and were so flea-infested they would have died in a matter of days :( So they bathed them and now we're taking care of them!

There are 5 of them, the three you see in the photo are the boys, and there's a tabby and tortie girl. They're still little enough that they need to be fed with a bottle, but they're learning how to eat and use the litter box. They're really friendly and sweet!

Happy 4th & belated Caturday!

My dad and baby Panini

Happy Independence Day to my American readers! Caturday is late because I'm on vacation, but I figured today was as good as any day to post, because it's also Panini's 1st birthday!

I don't know exactly when she was born because her birth is oddly cloaked in mystery - like where she came from, what happened to her mother, etc. We took her and Truffles at the last minute, when their current foster family was going away, and no one at the shelter seemed to know where they came from. We got them in the first week of August around my birthday (best birthday present ever!), and they were about 4 weeks old. So that makes her born some time this week, and I chose the 4th as her birthday to make it easy to remember.

She's a year old now, and she's just as sweet as ever. Her only problem is she still thinks she's teeny, and wants to sit on shoulders like she always has, except everyone's shoulders have gotten smaller!

My brother and the now fully-grown Panini

Have a safe and happy long weekend!

The Body Shop Princess Bag free gift week 4!

I don't know how this post escaped me - oops! Oh well, better late than never. The fourth and final week of The Body Shop's Princess Bag free gifts was your choice of their hand wash. At least, that's what their Facebook page said. My local shop said there was no choice and they were only giving out the Sweet Lemon scent. Which is fine, but I'd have probably chose the coconut if it were up to me! I didn't even know they had hand wash - it's fun to try new things!

Claire's 10 for $10 goodies!

A while ago Claire's was having my favorite sale of theirs - 10 for $10! It's hit or miss, sometimes I find tons of things I want, and other times I leave empty handed. This wasn't one of those times! You don't have to buy 10 things (they all ring up $1 regardless of how much you buy) but I had no problem finding 10 things I wanted.

I'm currently on a bracelet kick, especially the braided ones, so I was happy to find lots of cute bracelets! I also picked up these goofy but adorable cases:

Because I can't resist things with kitties on them!
